Straight Stairlifts in Colchester
The most affordable and quickest stairlift to fit, ideal for a single, straight flight.
What to know before you choose
A straight stairlift runs on a single, straight rail along one side of your staircase. Because the rail is a standard length-cut item rather than a made-to-measure one, it is the cheapest type to buy and the fastest to fit. Many Colchester homes built from the 1930s onwards have exactly this kind of staircase, so most of our installations are straight lifts.
A typical straight stairlift has a swivel seat, folding arms, footrest and seat belt, and runs on rechargeable batteries that charge from the rail. Folding rails and fold-up seats keep the stairs usable for the rest of the family.

Who it suits
- Homes with one uninterrupted flight of stairs, with no turns or half landings
- People who want the lowest cost and quickest installation
- Short-term needs, for example after surgery, where a reconditioned lift can make sense
- Narrow stairs, where a slim-profile model and folding rail keep the walkway clear
What it costs
New straight stairlifts typically cost £2,500 to £3,200 fitted, starting from about £2,475 and reaching £4,500 for long or awkward flights. Reconditioned straight lifts start from £1,785. Our cost calculator gives you a personal range.
How it works
After a free home survey, a straight stairlift is usually fitted in a few hours, and next-day installation is often possible. The engineer tests the lift, checks the safety features and shows you how to use it before they leave.
Straight Stairlifts: common questions
How long does a straight stairlift take to fit?
Usually a few hours, and often the same day as arrival. The rail is cut to length for your staircase, so there is no manufacturing wait.
Can a straight stairlift be fitted on either side of the stairs?
Yes. The price is normally the same either side, and we recommend the side that gives the safest getting on and off at the top and bottom.
Will it block the stairs for other people?
No. The seat, arms and footrest fold away, and the rail is slim, so everyone else can still use the stairs.
